About this deal

Success came easily, but he did not know what to do with himself in his spare time, so he started using cocaine. It's so common for people with BPD to take their own lives that it's one of the only mental illnesses that lists suicide as a symptom. Joe doesn’t tell you how to fix your problems in his book, but he does tell you something arguably even more important: that all is not lost even when your problems seem insurmountable. Joe Tracini travels to the horrible heart of his abominable illness and unflinchingly examines the misery it has heaped upon him and everyone around him. But if his book makes you think: "thank fuck it’s not just me" and that makes you feel a little better, then it’s a job well done.

But if there is even the smallest chance that me telling you how I live with me helps you live with you, and opens up a space for you to be more honest about your mental health, it will have been worth it. As a person with mental illness, (depression), I really felt what he went through and on Twitter I cheered him on and expressed compassion. For those that do not suffer from a mental illness, can you imagine that scenario playing out hundreds to thousands of times a day with each task, interaction, or memory? He doesn’t delve into where his BPD came from, although it’s fairly obvious his Mum and Dad weren’t Mr and Mrs Perfect Pants Parents.I don't owe Joe Tracini my life, but I do owe him for the silly joy of his captivatingly cringy dance videos in lockdown.

In 2003, he was the British junior magical champion and was named the most promising comedy act by Ken Dodd. Ultimately, this is a story of hope and encouragement, telling us that no matter how hopeless life might seem, if we just wait for maybe as little as a few minutes, things will get better. He made his first short video in January, because he had spent his life telling lies and he just wanted to tell the truth, unadorned, however painful it was. So I was looking forward to this print 'extended version', if you will, whilst hoping there might be some nuggets of use to someone I love. Final note to say is to say that the comedy in this book will have you laughing at things you thought were morally wrong to laugh at, but here you are belly laughing at suicidal jokes.

He attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts in London and learned how to sing, dance and act, before starring on TV in My Spy Family, Coming of Age and Hollyoaks. Sometimes there is no split screen, just Tracini explaining that talking about killing himself in front of so many people is a form of insurance – the more people he tells he won’t do it, the less likely he is to do so.

Well, we talked about getting a rabbit and that’s quite long term, because we haven’t got a garden yet! His cousin, who had flunked university, taught him in the shed at the bottom of the family’s garden in Kent. I have been aware of Joe Tracini for some time, as I was a huge fan of Joe Pasquale growing up, and so saw Tracini involved with some of Pasquales entertainment shoes. It is clear that as much as Joe delights most of us, he very rarely feels that way about himself, due to his diagnosis of BPD and his constant war with a mental health condition that is trying to kill him by getting him to kill himself.Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ. This is not a comfortable book to read, but it is a brave, important and necessary book that shines a light on a lot of the issues around mental health and how we as a society deal with it. Being able to relate to someone on such a deep level and feel truly SEEN for the first time in my life… might have just saved my life.
