I feel like I am supposed to leave the book believing that Jeremy was wrong to get the squip and right to give it up.

Then, it's goodbye porn and geekdom, and hello hot chicks, parties and a whole new perspective on life. Another issue this book runs into is that though infidelity is dismissed when males commit it, girls are continuously and pervasively labeled "sluts" and "whores" and have every insult in the book thrown at them (by both girls and boys). From those twenty minutes, it seemed to be exactly like the book, so I’m glad I exed out of that one real quick.

Another thing to note is that Jeremy's love interest is not as sexually active as other girls, and is often described to be different than the other girls he meets whom he respects very little, once again, enforcing the hypocritical view of sexuality between the genders. You might have been thinking - wait, wait, as YAF shouldn’t this book have ended with the boy realizing he’s better off as himself, without the aid of a microcomputer telling him exactly what to say? Jeremy and Michael fight off the controlled students until the SQUIP reveals that Christine has been SQUIPed, and under its influence, she professes her love for Jeremy.

Overall, Be More Chill the musical stays true to the spirit of the book while also making some significant changes to better suit the stage/story. M.
