About this deal

No Way Out is the utterly compelling third book in the Oxford based series by Cara Hunter featuring DI Adam Fawley and after a sensational second outing, this third book cements the author’s status as a rising star of some of the most compelling police procedurals about. After the death of their son, Jake, Alex was pushing Adam to adopt, something he is not ready or capable of doing, leaving him terrified that this will signal the end of their marriage. Two children are pulled from the wreckage of the fire - three year old Zachary is already dead and his older brother Matty is in a critical state, and the prognosis isn’t good. Despite the wide cast of characters and short scenes (no chapters in any of her books, just scene breaks), you get a great sense of all the different personalities at play.

I like the way too that we seem to have a possible solution and then new evidence comes in that alters the perspective. Es un libro que empieza con el aviso de una casa en llamas y que parece haber una familia dentro en ella se encuentran 2 cadáveres y un niño inconsciente. She goes above and beyond when drafting report excerpts, blogs, transcripts, etc to create an authentic feel for the reader.

There are twists right up to the end that surprised me, but they were appropriate, and worked beautifully. Samantha Esmond, their mother, is missing and the father, Michael, is away at an academic conference in London, and cannot be tracked down. Southey Road – once home to a family of four – now lies in ruins due to a horrific overnight house fire. Quinn is in the front row with his tablet in his hand and his pen behind his ear (yes, I know, it doesn't make sense, but that is what he does). This is a chilling, utterly gripping crime fiction that grabs the reader so effectively that it keeps them glued to the novel right up to the final pages of the novel.

As with the previous books in this series interspersed within the narrative are media reports of the initial fire and subsequent discoveries along with the related reader comments, official police and pathology reports, as well as flashbacks to periods prior to the fire which gives us an insight into the mindsets of Samantha and Michael and certain events in the months leading up to that fateful night. Lo compensa dejando caer una serie de interrogantes, muy bien medidos, para los que yo, como lectora, necesitaba respuestas. His brother, Phillip Esmond, is helping with enquires but Fawley suspects he may be hiding something. The mood of the story is managed sensitively with the distressing realisation that a child has died and the harrowing discoveries that are still to come. By now I've gotten used to the writing style of Cara Hunter and the absence of definitive chapters, which I will admit I found a little jarring at first, instead the story unfolds almost like scenes from a play as piece by piece information is discovered and the team establish the facts surrounding this tragic case.Todo comienza con un incendio de grandes proporciones en una mansión de Oxford, tras las fiestas de Navidad. Highly recommended and in common with the second outing, In The Dark, this is a twisty and absorbing police procedural that pulls no punches. Fawley’s narrative is presented in the first-person and those of his team in the third-person, making it clear who is leading the inquiry and the chain of command with Chris Gislingham overseeing his first major case as a detective sergeant.

Throughout the series, I couldn't really see the value he brought to the team other than creating drama. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. The team dynamics have shifted since In the Dark – Quinn has been demoted, and Gislingham temporarily promoted in his place, which causes some tension between the two men, and puts a lot of pressure on Gislingham to prove himself both to his teammates and to his boss, Fawley.Again there's an even split between the police investigation in the present, and what led up to the crime, in this case 317 days before the fire working forward. It’s little over a year since Cara Hunter – and, indeed, DI Adam Fawley – appeared on the scene with her debut novel Close to Home.
